Since those early days, these institutions of higher learning have written an incredible success story, one that is substantiated by the numbers. Attractive as never before: Fifty-odd years ago, few would have imagined that one day 40 % of students in Germany would be enrolled at one of its Universities of Applied Sciences. Enrolment numbers have been increasing constantly since 1991, with a current figure of more than 1 million students offering proof positive of the successful further development of Germany’s Universities of Applied Sciences.

Those interested in studying at a German University of Applied Sciences are absolutely spoiled for choice: for the Winter Semester 2021 / 2022, Germany’s Universities of Applied Sciences offered a total of approx. 8,000 courses of study. Of these, 4,700 were bachelor’s courses, 3,300 were master’s courses.
