INCREDIBLY
EXCELLENT GAME
“nGlow” is a 3D puzzle platform thematically focussing on sustainability, our handling of Mother Nature and the balance between technology and nature. The jury of the German Computer Game Awards was visibly impressed and was quoted as saying: “Rarely has a game idea been conveyed so succinctly and with such a sense of atmosphere.” The basis for this success was laid in the “Game Development” course taught by Prof. Dominik Wilhelm, Professor of Media Informatics and Applied Game Concepts at Harz University of Applied Sciences.
EXCELLENT TEAM
A delegation representing the team, made up of Mirko Skroch, Leoni Schulte and Melanie Ramsch, travelled to Munich to take part in the award ceremony. Prof. Dominik Wilhelm, who supported the project, said on the evening of the ceremony: “We are very proud to have produced Germany’s third-best junior talent concept. This excellent performance is certain to pave the way for these students in their industry. Moreover, the award is a credit to our still very young study programme, and is representative for its high level of quality.” And right he was.
EXCELLENT
IDEA
The team returned to Harz University of Applied Sciences in Wernigerode full of fresh ideas and valuable contacts. Their enthusiasm remained high, even weeks after the award ceremony. To them, “nGlow” was more than a university project. In the meantime, the team has successfully established UniGlow Entertainment GmbH, specialising in interactive 3D applications. The game developers had absolute freedom of choice as regards their new company’s location. However, they quickly decided to remain where they had been all along. “Our university is very dear to us, we really wanted to keep our collaboration with them going and also introduce new students to the subject matter,” says Mirko Skroch. Leoni Schulte, responsible for game design within the team, amongst other things, continued: “Over the years, we have established many contacts in Saxony-Anhalt.” Implementing “nGlow” is the main objective. The five friends all know that it’s a long way to go before they reach their common goal. They are also aware that it will take time before “nGlow” becomes financially sustainable. “It is for this reason that we do not want to become entirely dependent on the game,” says Mr Skroch. With their gaming studio, the team offers further services in the design of learning content and interactive elements.
